This document describes a study that isolated and characterized chromium-resistant bacteria from industrial waste in Karachi, Pakistan. Samples were collected from two sites contaminated with heavy metals from various industries. Among 53 isolated bacterial strains, 7 were selected for their chromium resistance from 100-1500 mg/L. Two strains, S35 and S48, showed maximum resistance up to 1600 mg/L. 16S rRNA sequencing identified S35 as Bacillus paranthracis and S48 as Bacillus paramycoides. Growth conditions were optimized, with both growing best at 30°C and pH 7.5-6.5. The study aims to explore indigenous bacteria for bioremediating toxic chromium from industrial effluents.
