This document outlines a collaborative effort to identify 50 fundamental questions in island biology to guide future research over the next 50 years. Researchers adapted a horizon scanning methodology to develop an initial list of 187 questions, which were refined through online surveys into the top 50 questions. These questions are structured around four broad topics - ecology/biogeography, evolution, community ecology, and conservation/management. Specifically, the questions cover global diversity patterns, island ontogeny/climate change, island rules/syndromes, biogeography theory, speciation dynamics, dispersal/colonization, community assembly, biotic interactions, global change impacts, and invasive species management.
