This document summarizes a research study about the career needs of R&D personnel, the gap between career development programs and career needs, and the impact of that gap on job satisfaction and turnover intentions. The study explored the diverse career needs of R&D staff at different career stages and the career development programs suited to meet those needs. It found that a larger gap between career programs and needs was associated with higher levels of job dissatisfaction and turnover intentions among R&D staff. The findings suggest the importance of designing flexible career development programs that accommodate the varying needs of R&D professionals over the course of their careers.
