This document is a thesis submitted by Joakim Osur in partial fulfillment of a Doctor of Philosophy degree in public health. It examines the drivers, decision making processes, and outcomes of unsafe abortion in four districts of Siaya County, Kenya. The study uses a mixed methods approach, collecting both quantitative and qualitative data through interviews with women who had unsafe abortions and key informants. The thesis includes chapters on introduction and background, literature review, materials and methods, results and discussion, and conclusions. It aims to understand the health system and social factors that influence women's decisions to have unsafe abortions and how the methods used impact outcomes. The findings seek to inform recommendations to reduce unsafe abortion and its consequences in the region
