This document presents the results of a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic study of changes in the chemistry of Scots pine and beech wood decayed by three different fungi: the brown-rot fungus Coniophora puteana, the non-selective white-rot fungus Coriolus versicolor, and the selective white-rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium. Wood samples were exposed to fungi for time periods up to 12 weeks and analyzed using FTIR to determine relative changes in lignin and carbohydrate intensities.
