This master's thesis presents the DoGood mobile app, which aims to motivate citizens to participate in civic activities through gamification. The thesis developed the DoGood concept through interviews and a focus group to identify civic activities. It then implemented DoGood as a hybrid mobile app and conducted a five-week user study in Brisbane. The study found that DoGood successfully motivated most users to do more civic activities and that its gamified elements were well received. Based on the results, the thesis defined civic activities as those that give citizens opportunities to get involved and improve their local community.
