This document discusses industrial clusters in the European Union and their role in stimulating regional innovation and economic cohesion. It begins with an overview of industrial clusters in the EU, highlighting their strengths in generating knowledge spillovers and competition, as well as weaknesses. The paper then empirically investigates how cluster characteristics influence regional R&D investment, innovation output, and economic cohesion. The analysis finds that larger clusters significantly enhance regional innovation, and specialization in medium-high and high-technology clusters creates a better environment for innovation. The presence of clusters is also positively associated with higher regional employment levels.
