PINE TREE SHILLING FORGERY NOE PQ This silver forgery has a tell-tale defect in that the diemaker cut a bifurcated top on the 1 in 1652 with- out realizing he or she was copying a normal developing die break found on many genuine Noe 1-A Pine Tree Shillings. Described in The Secret of the Good Samaritan Shilling. UNIQUE NOE 12, CROSBY 6-K PINE TREE SHILLING From the Castine, Maine hoard discovered in 1840 - 1841. MASASTHVSETS missspelled. Each N is in mirror image, one on the obverse and four on the reverse. The inner and outer circles are smaller in diameter than on the large size pine tree shillings, leading to a conclusion that the coin is a transition between the two planchet sizes. It is also postulated by some to be a circulating counterfeit because of its style of lettering and low weight (62 grains). UNIQUE First auctioned as Lot 2467 in the Woodward sale for October 1863. wx ANS Nowe. “ oe POL AROID
