Not every forest has a protector. Some say that some forests hide giants, others fairies or even enchanted stags or unicorns to guard them from human cruelty. So it was a great surprise for young Mr Darcy to discover that the forest near his family’s estate, Pemberley, had a genuine druid as its guardian. The boy didn’t know much about druids, nor did he suspect what secrets such a magical being held or how useful it would be to have gained the friendship of a strange and gentle older man who had shown clear evidence of knowing and protecting the forest. He couldn’t even ask his father about it, for he had promised the druid, on his word as a gentleman, not to mention a word to Mr George Darcy about their miraculous encounter in the woods.
