Just yesterday they were blissfully ignorant of the catastrophe that had occurred there. Now they were anxiously awaiting their arrival and praying fervently for a miracle. An express had arrived early that very morning from Fitzwilliam Darcy informing them that Charles Bingley had been in an accident that had left him unconscious and with his recovery uncertain. Mr. Bennet had also sent Jane’s closest sister Elizabeth with her as both her companion and comforter. Mr. Darcy’s carriage had been sent to convey Jane to Bingley’s side in the hope that her presence would help him to regain consciousness and speed his recovery.On the third and final day of their journey north, Jane took Elizabeth’s hand in hers.
