This document discusses supply chain management (SCM) in the shipbuilding industry. It begins with an introduction that outlines how shipbuilding has become a global, networked industry involving companies from different countries. It then discusses how SCM has been proposed to manage complex supply chains but has focused more on high-volume industries. The document aims to understand the role and key drivers of SCM for shipbuilding, as well as barriers to its implementation. A literature review identified main SCM concepts and a case study of a shipbuilding company provided discussion of challenges. The results showed that improving supplier relationships and adopting information technology are essential for SCM in shipbuilding.
