Tidal Wave of Marines This elaborately illustrated Gulf War PSYOP leaflet portrays the U.S. Marines as a knife-wielding, war-ready, tidal wave of a soldier. Twelve thousand copies of the leaflet were placed in sealed bottles and tossed in the ocean of Kuwait's coast. U.S. PSYOP officials hoped that when the bottled leaflets reached the shores of occupied Kuwait, Iraqi troops would intercept them and view the leaflets as an indication of a planned amphibious landing by allied forces (when in fact the major attack would come along Iraq's border with Saudi Arabia). Hence the intent of this leaflet was as much deception as it was intimidation.
