This document discusses a study from Italy that examined individuals' learning and career paths through qualitative interviews. The study used theories of reflexivity, agency, competency development, and transformation as a framework. Specifically, Archer's model of reflexive types helped analyze the conduct of the 21 interview subjects. While individual-specific, the subjects all worked towards constructing a self-identity that allowed employment, satisfaction, and recognition. This appeared reinforced by intentionally developing competencies, both cognitive and practical, through formal and experiential learning. The research provides insights into subjective, agentic aspects of career development relevant to lifelong career guidance policies focused on individual trajectories.
