This document summarizes a research article that reviewed studies on using Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to enable real-time and secure remote health monitoring through smart home applications. It conducted a multi-layer taxonomy of related literature. The first layer analyzed telemedicine architecture and identified 9 relevant studies, which were classified into surveys and those discussing client/server aspects. The second layer reviewed 67 studies on IoT-based smart home security, which were divided into 6 categories: architecture design, security analysis, security schemes, security examination, security protocols, and security frameworks. The review identified challenges and opportunities to enhance security for remote patient monitoring using IoT and smart homes in telemedicine.
