This document examines the relationship between the purpose of social media use and civic and political participation among senior high school students in the Philippines. A survey was conducted of 150 students about their social media use and levels of civic and political engagement. The study found that students had a moderate level of social media use for various purposes. Their civic and political participation was generally low. However, there was a significant positive correlation, such that higher social media usage was linked to higher civic and political involvement, and vice versa. The study recommends that students use social media cautiously and for educational purposes, and that educators and parents provide guidance on social media use.
