Though the weevil was originally described as a pest of rice and the larva is root-feeder (IH=>96, 1902a,b), it is presently not so common in rice paddies in Japan (MDG>BDID, 1984). In northeastern Laos, however, it is quite common on footpaths between rice fields and ridges of small river channelsadjacent to rice paddiesinmountainvillages. The pest status isuncertain at present inLaos. 2. EchinocnemusbipunctatusRD:AD;H,1874 Specimensexamined. 8exs.,BanMuang(alt.1,450m),XiengkhouangProv.,1(cid:2)V(cid:2)2008,H.
