This document discusses utilizing water hyacinth as an alternative paper resource. Water hyacinth is an invasive aquatic plant with rapid growth that is difficult to control. It can absorb pollutants from industrial wastewater. The document proposes using water hyacinth for pulp and paper production and in the printing and packaging industries as a replacement for wood-based paper and board. Researchers collected water hyacinth from an overgrown lake in Central Java and investigated producing paper pulp at lower temperatures since water hyacinth has a low lignin content. This could provide an economic use of the invasive plant and benefit local communities while substituting for wood-based materials.
